Last Call for Candidates

The qualification period for Belle Isle Commissioner candidates begins this Monday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. Candidates from Districts 1 and 7 are up for election.

At this time, it appears that at least one competing candidate will be running from District 1. But I have not yet learned of any competing candidate planning to run in District 7.

Democracy is meaningless without competition. Belle Isle residents have not voted for a City official since 2006 because of a lack of competition. It's time for this to change.

Are you ready to serve? Candidate packets can be picked up at City Hall. Completed packets must be submitted by Friday, November 15 at 12 p.m. You can find your district number on this map:

Need any help getting your qualification packet completed? Contact the Belle Isle Sun at and we'll get you all the help you need!

  1. Reminder-The candidates need to get about 30 or so petitions (check with City Clerk for exact minimum) completed and signed by registered voters living anywhere in the City by Friday Nov 15th at 12pm along with rest of papers due then.

  2. A neighbor told me about this site a few days ago. THANK YOU! This is a wonderful forum to encourage residents to stay informed and become more involved.... myself included. The manner in which the charter school came to be sent up red flags that have continued as I learn more about how city business has been occurring these last few years. We have a gem here in Belle Isle and need to protect it as such. Admittedly, this is not an arena I have spent anytime.... until now. I plan to learn more and hope others will do that, as well.
