Second McCoy/Trentwood Billboard Hearing This Tuesday

As reported previously, there is a developer seeking to increase the height of a billboard on McCoy Road, located immediately behind many homes on Trentwood. In order to increase this billboard's height, the developer requires and has requested a code variance from the Belle Isle Planning & Zoning Board (P&Z Board).

The first P&Z hearing on this issue took place last month, where Belle Isle residents expressed their concerns about the proposed increase in height. The primary concern is that this lighted billboard, already visible to many Trentwood residents at night, will become significantly more invasive once its height has been increased.

Last month, the P&Z Board postponed voting on this height variance until they could evaluate the amount of light emitting from the billboard as well as how this change in height would affect Trentwood residents. Tuesday night, the P&Z Board will take this issue back up, and will likely rule on the developer's variance request. If the developer's height variance is denied by the P&Z Board, the developer could appeal the decision to the Belle Isle City Council at a later date.
